Artist Statement

I'm frequently asked how I became a potter? My answer is simple, one pot at a time. I believe that every piece I create has something of me contained within it. For that reason, I want my work to represent the best of the form, with the highest artistic ideals, but also to include elements I hold dear. I believe in beauty, aesthetic form, shape and shadow, and even whimsy. They are, I hope, elements that represent the best of my abilities, and the highest aspiration of every committed craftsman.

It's not hard to find all manner of pottery today, but unlike the uniformity of factory created merchandise, every piece I make is created one at a time, by hand, in my studio in St Paul, Minnesota.
